Dao One Fifty-Five houses Lightscape Inc., a lighting equipment company that rents out cameras, lights, generators, and other large-scale equipment to major TV networks in the Philippines. Taking a cue from their company identity, our concept was to play around with a natur{artificial} dualism, where in we manipulated both natural AND artificial lightin playful ways through the way the buildings were designed. The program required us to locate different sized structures within the site  and so we connected all of these disparate masses with a series of curved canopies that flow in shape sequentially, as if frozen in movement. The form reminds us of the Banaue Rice Terraces, subtly representing Filipino culture and heritage in the building, but in an abstract, contemporary, and non-literal way.

As color is a manifestation of light, the canopies act as canvases that are painted a gradient spectrum of colors, achieving a very festive and aspirational character identifiable with Filipinos.

For artificial lighting, we proposed that we transform the face of the building into a media façade. At night, a digital light show could be projected on the façade, encouraging the immediate community to converge.
